Goals In Life… be paid to travel

When I was little I wanted to travel. Well… really I wanted to be a monkey trainer but traveling was high on the list.

I’m not sure why I wanted to travel. When riding in the car and in planes I loved looking out the window and watching the terrain go by. I loved the fact that you could hop in a car and drive 3 hours and be somewhere new surrounded by new people. It really comes down to the change, the temporarily new and challenging adjustments that I crave.

I have predominantly worked in theater management since I was in high school. I loved it most when I was being challenged and circumstances were constantly changing. I love cueing a show, calling a show and hate the mundane of rehearsals. I love Change and crave adrenaline.

Last year I got off my fourth cruise ship and was feeling reluctant about going back. I decide to make it work in NYC. I did it too, but about 5 months in I started missing the travel aspect of my job on cruise ships. I didn’t miss the drama or the politics that came along with being a mid-level female manager on a cruise ship, but missed waking up in a different city every day and eating amazing food.

About two years ago I took a trip to Europe and traveled to Europe on the airline that I will be working on. It was an easy flight. All the flight attendants were so adorably dressed and really seemed to love their job. The plane was amazing as well and you could tell people were appreciative of the low-priced but high-quality flight, and the ability to decide what they wanted to pay for.

I decided that I was going to try and find a new stage to manage. This one would be a metal tube that flies in the air and allows me the convenience to wake up in a new city and still have a home waiting for me. In opposition to having guests that travel a week on a floating city, I will soon be challenged with guests flying with me on a metal tube that my main job will be their ultimate safety in getting them to their destination.

Going into flight attendant adventures is certainly not something I thought I would do. I won’t be mainly in charge of entertainment, which has been my main responsibility in many of my jobs. Certainly, it is a detour in the life I thought I wanted. However, it does take on a few of my dreams, which are to be paid to travel and be challenging and facilitate the needs of others to get them where they need to go.

Having been on cruise ships, I believe my training on ships will only help me once I start my training for being a flight attendant. After all, once you are in the air, maritime law is in effect.
