A week down and I’ll admit that me having compassion and patience for other people’s learning curves is a constant struggle.
We have so many different types of people in our class. We all bring different experiences in jobs and in life, but somehow we came together to do this training for this air line.
As of this moment I feel like everything we have covered, with the exception of the aviation information, is information I have heard before.
The biggest frustration I have had was with the first aid training. We were being taught first aid not by medical professionals and not by an EMT but by other employees. We do not get certified and technically we will be covered under good samaritan and the equivalent in Europe. However, I feel as though in an emergent medical situation we will not abstain from helping and most likely help in a similar way crew members on the ship did. However, we do on planes have access to something called medlink, which will give us the information from a doctor which then we can follow. Common sense is also such a huge factor, which brings me to my next frustration.
We are leaning with 16 of us trainees in a room. What do we do when I personally question the abilities of a fellow crew member or cabin member to handle an emergency and react in a calm manner. Do I voice my concern? Do I wait for the instructors who rotate in and out to notice that the trainee does not have great common sense? Do I just attribute it to the trainee’s age and inexperience, or not having great common sense? How do I decide whether voicing my opinion about another’s abilities is for the greater good or will it reflect poorly on me and whether I am meddling?
First and foremost it is only a week in, and if the crew member to be truly isn’t capable it will only become more noticeable. But by the end of our training, I will sure as anything say something to our instructors if I personally would feel uncomfortable working with this other trainee because of how I have experienced that specific person in training.
