People whom are worth your time… finding a unicorn

Making friends is hard. Finding people to trust with your secrets and with your heart is a difficult task.

Work is not the first place I would look for friends but every so often I come across a person whom I can see being a good friend.

This makes me think about the potential I see in each person when I meet them. Most people I meet at work I see only a professional work potential. They are good at their job, and I respect them for how they do their job.

It is rare to come across someone whom I feel I can have a work relationship with and also have a friendship with. Even more so, it is rare to find someone who feels the same way and can value finding some one they can be friendly with at work to be a unique person… it’s a unicorn.

It’s scary to let someone in. It’s the expectation and the hope that they will reciprocate, but when you find a person from your work that you want to let into your personal life, it’s very much like finding a unicorn.

I’m am happy to say I have found very few in my professional career but they do exist and I am dam happy to call a colleague a friend when they earn the title/have the courage to make me their friend.

It’s rare to fly in my company with someone more than a few times with in a short time, I have had the pleasure of flying with some really fantastic people multiple times and when their names appear on my schedule I am truly delighted. Even more delighted when I can take note at how lucky I am to fly with someone in a professional environment but also be able to call that professional my friend. How lucky am I, to find unicorns.
